Meet Tina!

Our newest "good dog" who's learning the ropes at Hearing Dogs NZ

Posted Thursday May 15, 2025

Meet Tina, the latest good dog Audiology South sponsor for Hearing Dogs NZ.

Tina was kindly donated to Hearing Dogs NZ from a family in Taupō. She was born on Valentine's Day (14 February) in 2024 and is a Cavoodle. Tina is a small Cavoodle because her Mum is the Cavalier and her Dad is a Toy Poodle.

Tina has settled well into kennel life and enjoys her work and playing with the other good-dogs-in-training.

Our sponsorship of Hearing Dogs NZ goes towards:

  • Training the puppy
  • Equipment used - jackets, bedding, bowls, leads, collars, haltis etc.
  • Food and training treats
  • Veterinary costs
  • Costs associated with the placement of the puppy with the Deaf person

Who are Hearing Dogs NZ?

Hearing Dogs NZ assess, select, train and place Hearing Dogs with deaf and severely hearing-impaired New Zealanders. They're based in New Plymouth with a for-purpose training facility (including a house simulation!) where trainees learn through positive reinforcement, play, rewards and fun activities.

What do Hearing Dogs do?

Hearing Dogs gently tap their companions with their paw to let them know they've heard something and then lead them there. They'll listen for alarm clocks, the doorbell, telephone ringing or text messaging, baby monitors and any specific sounds that are important to their companion.

Audiology South are happy to support the good work that Hearing Dogs NZ do (and the updates on the cute puppies doing good things doesn't hurt either!).
