Did you celebrate World Hearing Day on Sunday 3 March?

This year the World Health Organisation wants us to reflect on the barriers to accessing timely and effective hearing health services and uppermost it says are the ingrained misconceptions and stigmas around hearing loss and hearing aids.

Posted Monday March 11, 2024

Change the prevailing mindset, it says, and people will be freer to access services when they need them, and the global cost of unmet hearing needs to society will reduce.

Audiology South’s mission is to help people access the hearing care they need, feel comfortable and supported throughout the process and receive the best hearing solutions to meet their individual needs.

March is Hearing Awareness Month at Audiology South and we are here to help you discover how to care for your ears and get the most from your hearing aids.

We've been busy throughout the clinics with our current offer — a two-week, no obligation trial of new hearing aids, so if you’re thinking of taking up this offer, now is a good time to book in to see us. Call 0800 547 836 or book online  The offer runs through to the end of May. So come talk to us soon.

A busy couple of days in Wanaka. — Image by: Audiology South

We enjoyed the Southern Field Days at Waimumu in February. It was good to see so many familiar faces, and meet new people. We were also at the Wanaka A&P Show recently, so we perhaps you caught up with us there.

Speaking of Wanaka, from 18 March we will be in our brand new, purpose-built clinic at Wanaka’s Northlake subdivision, Unit 2, Ground Floor, Cnr Northlake Drive and Cluden Crescent. Be sure to call in if you're in the area; the team will proudly show you about.

In this issue we take a closer look at the message for World Hearing Day, introduced you to Lei Domingo, our new audiologist in Invercargill, give you some tips on how to protect your hearing aids from moisture damage, and take a look at musical ear syndrome — what is it, and what can you do about it?

As always, if you have a question you would like answered or a topic you would like to know more about please send me your suggestions. Email simon@audiologysouth.co.nz

So, settle down with a good cuppa and enjoy!

Simon Melville
Managing Director and Senior Audiologist.
